Name: Tap Windows Adapter V9 64 Bit Free Driver
Rating: 4.3 (5 reviews)
Author: OpenVPN

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the TAP-Windows installer as administrator and close VPN clients first. If an older TAP driver exists, remove stale “TAP-Windows Adapter V9” entries in Device Manager (View > Show hidden devices), reboot, then reinstall the 64-bit package.

Question 2

Adapter not detected or missing from Network Connections?

Accepted Answer

Check Device Manager under Network adapters for a warning icon and use Action > Scan for hardware changes. In Network Connections, enable the TAP adapter if disabled; if hidden, show hidden devices and reinstall the driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts or duplicate adapters?

Accepted Answer

Remove unused or duplicate TAP-Windows Adapter V9 instances before installing a new VPN client. Keep one matching driver version, as mismatched TAP/OpenVPN versions can cause connection failures. Reboot after changes.
