Author: Synaptics

Question 1

Install fails with “This device cannot start” (Code 10)?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the existing Synaptics PS/2 ClickPad entry in Device Manager, reboot, then run the installer as administrator. If it still fails, retry using compatibility mode for the listed Windows version.

Question 2

ClickPad not detected?

Accepted Answer

Enable “Internal Pointing Device” or the PS/2 mouse in BIOS, check the Fn touchpad-disable key, then use Device Manager’s “Show hidden devices” and “Scan for hardware changes.”

Question 3

Version conflicts or lost gestures?

Accepted Answer

Roll back to the previous Synaptics driver, remove duplicate Windows Update packages, and install the OEM-matched ClickPad driver. Avoid mixing generic Synaptics and laptop-vendor versions.
