Name: StarTech Orion USB Adapter Driver
Author: StarTech

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any old StarTech/Orion adapter driver and conflicting generic USB-serial drivers in Device Manager, reboot, then run the correct package as administrator with the adapter unplugged. Plug it in only when prompted.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a rear USB 2.0 port directly on the PC, not a hub or USB 3.0 port. Check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or a yellow warning icon, then reinstall the adapter driver or update the USB controller/chipset driver.

Question 3

Version or COM-port conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove duplicate/older driver versions, then assign a free COM port under Device Manager > Ports > Properties > Port Settings > Advanced. Make sure your software uses that exact port and no other app is holding it open.
