Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the Star SP700/SP742 driver installer as administrator, close POS software, and disconnect other USB printers. If setup still fails, uninstall old Star drivers, reboot, then retry.

Question 2

Printer not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the SP742 is powered on, use a direct USB port instead of a hub, try another cable, and check Device Manager for an unknown USB printing device. Print a self-test; if it prints, reselect the correct Star USB port in the printer queue.

Question 3

Version conflicts or cutter not working?

Accepted Answer

Remove old SP700 driver queues and mixed 32/64-bit packages, then install the latest SP742 cutter driver. In printer properties, select the cutter-enabled model and verify cutter settings.
