Name: SMC2862W G EZ Connect g 2.4Ghz 802.11g Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter Driver
Author: SMC

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the SMC setup as Administrator and use Windows XP/Vista compatibility mode for the old installer. Match the driver to your Windows architecture (32-bit vs. 64-bit); do not force a 64-bit INF onto 32-bit Windows.

Question 2

Adapter not detected?

Accepted Answer

Plug the SMC2862W-G directly into a USB 2.0 port, not a hub. In Device Manager, check for “Unknown device” and manually update the driver by pointing to the extracted INF file.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any existing SMC/other wireless USB drivers, remove the device in Device Manager, reboot, then reinstall. On Windows 10/11, expect limited support for this 802.11g adapter; use compatibility mode or a supported legacy driver.
