Name: SMC SMCWUSBS N Driver
Author: SMSC

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Use the correct 32-bit/64-bit SMCWUSBS N driver, run the installer as administrator, and reboot before retrying. If the legacy driver is unsigned, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Plug the adapter directly into a rear USB 2.0 port, not a hub. In Device Manager, remove any unknown USB device or old SMC/SMSC wireless entries, then rescan hardware.

Question 3

Version conflicts or dropped connections?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall previous SMC/SMSC wireless drivers and third-party WLAN utilities, reboot, then install the matching driver. Avoid mixing Windows WLAN management with vendor utilities.
