Question 1

Install fails or driver won’t load on modern Windows?

Accepted Answer

The SMCWPCIT-G uses legacy drivers. Run the installer as Administrator in Windows XP/Vista compatibility mode, and verify the package matches your OS architecture. Avoid forcing unsigned drivers unless obtained from SMC.

Question 2

Adapter not detected?

Accepted Answer

Power off, reseat the PCI card, try another PCI slot, and check BIOS for PCI/legacy network support. In Device Manager, look for an unknown “Network Controller” and install the driver via Update Driver > Browse.

Question 3

Version or utility conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old SMC wireless drivers and client utilities, reboot, then install one driver package only. Use either the SMC utility or Windows wireless configuration, not both.
