Author: SMSC

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

run the setup as administrator, use the 32-bit or 64-bit package that matches Windows, and if Windows blocks the legacy unsigned SMSC/EasyCap driver, disable driver signature enforcement temporarily or install the extracted INF manually via Device Manager.

Question 2

Device not detected or shows as Unknown device?

Accepted Answer

plug it directly into a rear USB 2.0 port, avoid hubs, check Device Manager under Imaging/Audio/Unknown devices, and point Update Driver to the extracted INF.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

uninstall older EasyCap/Somagic/UTV007/SM USB 007 drivers and bundled capture software, select “Delete driver software” in Device Manager, reboot, then install only the correct SMSC package.
