Name: SMC SMC1211TX EZ Card 10 100 PCI Driver
Author: SMSC

Question 1

Driver install fails on modern Windows?

Accepted Answer

The SMC1211TX uses a legacy SMSC driver that may be unsigned or blocked. Run the installer as Administrator, try Windows compatibility mode, or manually update the driver via Device Manager and temporarily disable driver signature enforcement if needed.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Power off and reseat the PCI card, try a different PCI slot, and check BIOS settings for PCI enumeration/IRQ assignment. Clean the card edge contacts and confirm the slot is enabled; older boards may need “Plug and Play OS” set correctly.

Question 3

Version or device conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove any existing SMC/SMSC Ethernet adapter entries and old driver packages first, including hidden devices. Match the driver to your Windows version and 32/64-bit architecture, then reboot before reinstalling to avoid binding the wrong driver.
