Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Disconnect the SpeedStream 4200 before running setup, run the installer as administrator, and temporarily disable antivirus. Reboot before reconnecting so Windows can bind the driver cleanly.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the 4200 has DSL sync and is connected to the correct USB/Ethernet port. Try another cable/port, then use Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes. For USB models, verify the modem is not in a non-USB interface mode.

Question 3

Version conflicts or unknown device?

Accepted Answer

Remove existing SpeedStream/ADSL modem entries in Device Manager, including hidden devices. Install the package matching your Windows version and hardware revision, and roll back if Windows Update replaces it with a generic modem driver that drops the connection.
