Name: Seagate FreeAgent Pro USB Device Driver
Author: Seagate

Question 1

Install fails or shows “Unknown Device”?

Accepted Answer

The FreeAgent Pro uses Windows’ built-in USB mass storage driver. Remove any legacy Seagate Manager/Turbo software, uninstall the device in Device Manager, reconnect it to a rear USB 2.0 port, and let Windows install the generic driver.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use the original USB cable and power adapter, avoid hubs, and check Disk Management. If the disk appears without a drive letter, assign one; if it shows as uninitialized, do not initialize it before recovering data.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old Seagate utilities and stale USB storage drivers, reboot, then reconnect the drive. If it spins but is not listed, test another cable/port and confirm the external power supply is connected.
