Author: SCM Microsystems

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the SCR222 installer as administrator, confirm the package matches Windows version and x86/x64, and reboot before retrying. If using a legacy signed driver, check driver signature enforcement settings.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Connect the reader directly to a rear USB 2.0 port, not a hub. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes and check for unknown/USB descriptor errors. Ensure the Windows Biometric Service (`WbioSrvc`) is running.

Question 3

Driver version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall existing SCM Microsystems/SCR222 drivers, including hidden devices, reboot, then install the matching package. Avoid mixing an older SCR222 driver with a newer SCM suite; if Windows Update replaces it, roll back or reinstall the vendor driver.
