Question 1

Install fails or rolls back on Windows 10/11?

Accepted Answer

The HD 6850 is legacy-only; current AMD Adrenalin does not support it. Remove existing GPU drivers with DDU in Safe Mode, disable Windows automatic driver updates, then install the correct legacy Catalyst package for your OS and reboot.

Question 2

Device not detected or black screen?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the card, connect the 6-pin PCIe power, and test another PCIe slot. On Flex models, confirm the monitor is on a supported DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort output; avoid passive DisplayPort adapters and check the BIOS primary display setting.

Question 3

Code 43, crashes, or version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Leftover OEM or Windows Update drivers conflict with legacy Catalyst. Use DDU, reinstall the matching legacy driver, and prevent Windows Update from replacing it. Do not mix Adrenalin with old Catalyst.
