Question 1

Installer fails or exits early?

Accepted Answer

The legacy Catalyst package may refuse to run on Windows 10/11. Run setup as administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode; if it still fails, extract the package and install the Sapphire HD 3850 driver manually via Device Manager → Update driver → Browse.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the card is fully seated in its PCIe/AGP slot, any 6-pin power connector is attached, and the monitor is connected to the HD 3850—not the motherboard. Set PCIe/AGP as primary display in BIOS and try another slot if available.

Question 3

Version conflicts/Code 43?

Accepted Answer

Remove existing AMD/NVIDIA drivers with DDU in Safe Mode, reboot, and install only the matching legacy Catalyst package. Prevent Windows Update from reinstalling a generic display driver afterward.
