The Android USB Ethernet RNDIS driver allows Windows to recognize a compatible Android device as a network adapter when connected by USB. It supports USB tethering, so your computer can use the phone’s shared internet connection rather than relying on Wi-Fi. For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a package from the manufacturer that matches your operating system and hardware.
Key Features
- USB network connectivity: Enables communication between Windows and an Android device using Remote Network Driver Interface Specification (RNDIS).
- Support for USB tethering: Lets Windows access an internet connection shared by a compatible phone when USB tethering is enabled.
- Network adapter recognition: Helps the connected device appear correctly under Network adapters in Device Manager, where you can check its status or troubleshoot driver issues.
- Windows networking integration: Allows the USB connection to work with standard Windows network settings, including automatic IP address assignment when supported by the connected device.
How to Install
- Check compatibility before downloading. Select an Android USB Ethernet RNDIS driver package that explicitly supports your Windows version and system architecture. Compatibility can vary by phone model, so review the manufacturer’s instructions as well.
- Prepare the USB connection. Connect your Android device directly to the computer using a data-capable USB cable. Unlock the phone and enable USB tethering in its network or hotspot settings; the exact menu name varies by device.
- Install the driver package. Extract the download if necessary. If it includes an installer, run it and follow the prompts. Windows may also recognize the device and install a suitable driver automatically.
- Use Device Manager if manual installation is required. Find the connected device under Network adapters or Other devices, right-click it, and choose Update driver. Select the option to browse your computer, then point Windows to the extracted driver folder. Do not force a driver that Windows identifies as incompatible.
- Verify the connection. Restart the computer if prompted, reconnect the phone, and enable tethering again if needed. Check that the adapter has no warning icon in Device Manager, then test internet access.
The driver alone does not enable tethering on an unsupported phone or bypass mobile-plan restrictions. If the adapter appears but internet access fails, check the phone’s connection, tethering settings, and carrier permissions.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or is blocked: Windows may reject the RNDIS INF as unsigned or incompatible. Run the installer as administrator, confirm the package matches Windows architecture (x64/ARM64), and only temporarily disable driver signature enforcement if the manufacturer’s installer requires it.
- Device not detected / no Ethernet adapter: Android USB tethering may be off or USB mode set to charging/file transfer. Enable USB tethering, use a data-capable cable and direct port, then scan for hardware changes in Device Manager.
- Version conflict or wrong driver: An existing “Remote NDIS Compatible Device” or OEM RNDIS driver can take over. Uninstall the old RNDIS entry and delete its driver software, reconnect the device, and install the downloaded driver; roll back if connectivity breaks after an update.
