The AOC 2236 is a monitor, and its monitor driver helps Windows identify the display and apply the information supplied by AOC. It is separate from your graphics card driver, which controls video output, hardware acceleration, and most display settings.
Key Features
- Display identification: A compatible monitor driver can replace a generic monitor entry with the AOC model name in Device Manager.
- Monitor-specific information: An appropriate INF file supplies identification and display information that Windows can use when configuring the screen.
- Color profile support: If the package includes an ICC or ICM profile, it can be used with Windows Color Management to help supported applications interpret colors for the display.
- Standard Windows installation: Monitor INF files can be installed through Device Manager without replacing your existing Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA graphics driver.
How to Install
- Confirm your monitor and Windows version. Check the model label on the display, including any suffix after “2236.” For Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7, choose a package that explicitly supports your model and operating system; compatibility should not be assumed from the product name alone.
- Download and extract the package. Use a trusted source and save the files to a convenient folder. If the download is a ZIP archive, extract it before installation. Review any included instructions for model-specific requirements.
- Locate the display in Device Manager. Connect and power on the monitor, then open Device Manager and expand Monitors. Select the entry corresponding to the AOC 2236; it may initially appear as a generic monitor.
- Install the compatible driver. Right-click the monitor entry, select Update driver, and choose Browse my computer for drivers. Point Windows to the extracted folder and follow the prompts. Do not force installation if Windows reports that the driver is incompatible.
- Check your display settings. Restart if prompted, then verify the resolution and refresh rate in Windows display settings against the monitor’s specifications. If a color profile was supplied, follow AOC’s instructions to associate it with the correct display.
A generic Windows monitor driver may already provide normal operation. If you experience flickering, missing resolution options, or a blank screen, also check the cable, connection, and graphics card driver—installing a monitor driver alone may not resolve those issues.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Driver install fails on Windows: The AOC 2236 monitor INF/ICM package may be blocked if run normally or if Windows prefers a generic driver. Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator; if setup still fails, update manually in Device Manager under Monitors > AOC 2236 > Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > Have Disk.
- Monitor not detected: Confirm the AOC 2236 is powered on and set to the correct input. Reseat the VGA/DVI cable, try another cable or port, then use Device Manager > Action > Scan for hardware changes. Avoid adapters where possible.
- Version conflicts/generic PnP driver: Uninstall the monitor entry in Device Manager, check Delete the driver software, reboot, and install the latest AOC 2236 driver. Then set the native resolution and refresh rate in Windows display settings.
