Name: Optiarc DVDRWBD BC 5540H ATA Device Driver
Author: Optiarc

Question 1

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the SATA data and power cables are seated, try another SATA port, and check that BIOS/UEFI lists the BC 5540H. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes; if it is absent there, Windows is not seeing the drive at the ATA/SATA level.

Question 2

Driver install fails or Code 10/28?

Accepted Answer

This optical drive normally uses Windows’ built-in `cdrom.sys`, so avoid forcing old Optiarc packages. Uninstall the device, reboot, and let Windows reinstall it. If using a vendor installer, run it as administrator and match it to the BC 5540H.

Question 3

Version/software conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove duplicate optical-drive entries and uninstall third-party burning suites, then reboot. Update firmware only with the official Optiarc/Sony BC 5540H package; mismatched firmware can cause read/write or detection failures.
