Question 1

Install fails or printer stays “Unspecified”?

Accepted Answer

Restart the Print Spooler (`services.msc`), then run the Star Micronics driver installer as administrator. Do not manually select `ntprint.inf`; use the vendor package and let Windows install the printer class driver.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the printer is powered and connected directly to a USB port (avoid hubs), try another cable/port, and check Device Manager for unknown USB devices. Reconnect after the driver package is installed.

Question 3

Driver/version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove old Star or generic printer entries and drivers in Print Management, reboot, then install the latest Star driver. If multiple queues exist, delete unused ones and set the correct port before testing.
