Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the Nokia/Windows Phone USB driver installer as administrator, extract the package first if needed, and try Windows 8/8.1 compatibility mode on newer Windows. Reboot before reconnecting the Lumia 520.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a known-good data cable and a rear USB 2.0 port, unlock the phone, and set USB connection to Media transfer/MTP. In Device Manager, update the unknown “Lumia 520” entry manually and point it to the extracted .inf driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall older Nokia/Windows Phone USB or WPD drivers, select “Delete the driver software,” reboot, then install only the Lumia 520-compatible package. Don’t mix drivers from newer Lumia models.
