Name: Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 4000 ED Driver
Author: Nikon

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The 4000 ED uses legacy Nikon Scan/FireWire drivers. Disconnect the scanner, run the installer as administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and reboot before reconnecting. Do not mix driver packages.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

This is an IEEE 1394 FireWire film scanner, not USB. Confirm the scanner is powered on, use a known-good FireWire cable and OHCI card, avoid USB-to-FireWire adapters, and power on the scanner before opening Nikon Scan.

Question 3

Version conflicts or crashes?

Accepted Answer

Remove old Nikon Scan/driver remnants and other scanner software first. Install one compatible Nikon Scan version only; on Windows 10/11, use a supported VM or compatibility mode rather than forcing unsigned drivers.
