Author: Nikon

Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Disconnect the D5300, uninstall older Nikon software/drivers (ViewNX-i, Transfer, Capture), reboot, then run the installer as administrator. Use a direct USB 2.0 port—not a hub—and the Nikon-supplied cable.

Question 2

Camera not detected?

Accepted Answer

Set the D5300 to MTP/PTP mode in the setup menu, unlock the SD card, and try another USB cable/port. In Device Manager, check for an unknown “MTP” or “Nikon DSC” device and update/remove it.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows updates?

Accepted Answer

Remove duplicate Nikon WPD/MTP entries in Device Manager, reinstall the current driver, and avoid installing legacy Nikon Transfer alongside newer software. Confirm Windows is using the signed Nikon/MTP driver, not a generic one.
