Name: NEC PCI to USB Open Host Controller Driver
Author: NEC

Question 1

Install fails or Code 10/28?

Accepted Answer

Use the NEC OHCI driver package matching your Windows version, run setup as administrator, and allow unsigned legacy drivers only if required. If Windows rejects the INF, update via Device Manager > Browse my computer.

Question 2

Device not detected/Unknown PCI device?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the NEC card, try another PCI slot, enable PCI USB in BIOS, and confirm the PCI vendor/device ID (NEC 1033) appears in Device Manager before installing the host-controller driver—not a USB hub driver.

Question 3

Version conflicts/Code 31 or crashes?

Accepted Answer

Remove old or hidden NEC USB host-controller entries, roll back to the Microsoft OHCI driver if stable, and avoid mixing OEM USB stacks; reboot after each change.
