Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the iRiver E100 driver installer as Administrator. On Windows 10/11, try compatibility mode for Vista/XP. Confirm you downloaded the 32-bit or 64-bit package matching Windows; legacy unsigned packages may require driver signature enforcement to be temporarily disabled.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a known data-capable USB cable and a rear direct USB port. Set the E100’s USB mode to match the driver (MTP for Windows Media Player, UMS for mass storage). Check Device Manager for “Unknown device” or a yellow warning icon.

Question 3

Version conflicts/generic driver loaded?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any existing iRiver E100, MTP, or USB Mass Storage entries in Device Manager, select “Delete driver software,” reboot, then reconnect and install only the correct package. Avoid mixing old and new driver versions.
