Name: IBM ThinkPad T42 2373 Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Installer fails or exits on modern Windows?

Accepted Answer

T42 2373 drivers are typically packaged for Windows 2000/XP. Run the IBM/Lenovo package in XP SP3 compatibility mode as administrator, or extract it and update the driver manually through Device Manager. Don’t force Windows 10/11 generic packages unless the hardware ID matches.

Question 2

Device not detected (Wi‑Fi/Ethernet/audio)?

Accepted Answer

Check BIOS for disabled onboard devices, install the Intel chipset driver first, then rescan in Device Manager. For wireless, confirm the Mini PCI card is seated and the radio switch is on.

Question 3

Version conflicts after Windows Update?

Accepted Answer

Windows may replace the IBM driver with a generic one. In Device Manager, use Update driver > Browse > Let me pick, select the IBM/Lenovo version, or roll back. Avoid mixing packages from different T42 models.
