Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

The IBM Pentium 4 package is often 32-bit and may reject newer Windows versions. Run the installer as administrator in compatibility mode, or update the processor/chipset entry manually via Device Manager using the extracted INF.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Missing IBM chipset INF or disabled ACPI/processor entries can hide the device. Install the IBM system chipset driver first, enable affected devices in Device Manager, and check for unknown devices with hardware IDs.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Mixing generic Intel chipset/processor drivers with IBM packages can cause duplicate or mismatched entries. Uninstall older Intel/IBM driver packages, reboot, then install only the IBM-approved version and avoid automatic driver updates for this legacy device.
