Name: IBM Avocent IPMI Device Driver
Author: IBM

Question 1

Install fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the IBM package as administrator, confirm Windows driver signature enforcement isn’t blocking the BMC/IPMI driver, and apply any required chipset/management-engine updates first. Reboot before retrying.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Enable IPMI/BMC and “LAN over USB” in BIOS/UEFI if available, check Device Manager under System devices, and rescan hardware. For Code 28/10, manually update the driver via “Browse my computer.”

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Remove older IBM/Avocent IPMI or generic BMC drivers in Device Manager, select “Delete driver software,” reboot, then install the IBM package. Keep driver and BMC firmware versions matched; avoid mixing other vendor management utilities.
