Question 1

Install fails or shows Code 10/28?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the existing “HTC MTP Device” and any old HTC USB driver in Device Manager, reboot, then reconnect the phone and let Windows install the generic MTP driver or the latest HTC USB driver.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a data-capable USB cable and a direct rear USB port. On the phone, unlock it and set USB mode to Media device (MTP), not charging-only; accept any trust prompt.

Question 3

Version conflicts after HTC Sync/USB driver updates?

Accepted Answer

Remove older HTC Sync Manager/USB driver packages, then in Device Manager choose Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > MTP Device or reinstall the current HTC driver and reboot.
