Question 1

Installer fails or Windows blocks the driver?

Accepted Answer

Run the HTC USB driver installer as administrator. On Windows 10/11, if compatibility or signature prompts appear, install manually via Device Manager: right-click the HTC Desire X/unknown Android device, choose Update driver > Browse my computer, and point to the extracted driver folder.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Use a known-good data cable and a rear USB 2.0 port. On the Desire X, change USB connection mode from “Charge only” to “USB storage” or “MTP,” then reconnect. Avoid USB hubs.

Question 3

Version conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall older HTC Sync Manager/HTC USB driver entries, remove stale Android/HTC devices in Device Manager, reboot, then install only the latest driver before reconnecting the phone.
