Question 1

Install fails or reports “hardware not found”?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the SoundMAX driver matches your ADI codec (AC’97 vs. HD Audio) and Windows XP architecture. For HD Audio, install XP SP3 and the Microsoft UAA HD Audio bus driver (KB888111) before running setup.

Question 2

Device not detected or yellow mark in Device Manager?

Accepted Answer

Enable onboard audio in BIOS, then check for “Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus.” If missing, reinstall the UAA bus driver and scan for hardware changes.

Question 3

Version conflicts, Code 10, or no sound?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the old SoundMAX/ADI driver and control panel, remove the device in Device Manager, reboot, then install one matching driver version. Don’t mix drivers for different ADI codec models.
