Name: Hometech Alfa 500C Driver
Author: OmniKey

Question 1

Driver installation fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Disconnect the Alfa 500C, remove previous OMNIKEY/HID smart-card reader drivers in Device Manager (View > Show hidden devices), reboot, then run the correct 32/64-bit installer as administrator. Temporarily disable antivirus if it blocks the `.inf`.

Question 2

Reader not detected?

Accepted Answer

Try a different USB port directly on the PC, not a hub. Check Device Manager for an unknown/OMNIKEY device and reinstall the USB CCID/OMNIKEY driver. Confirm the reader LED responds and test with another smart card.

Question 3

Version conflicts or old driver loaded?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall existing OMNIKEY driver packages and remove leftover entries, reboot, then install the latest supported package. Avoid mixing HID Global and Windows CCID drivers; use one consistently and re-enable the smart-card service.
