Question 1

Installer fails or rolls back?

Accepted Answer

Run the HLDS package as administrator in Windows compatibility mode; update the motherboard SATA/IDE controller or chipset driver first. For the GDR 8084N slim DVD-ROM, avoid forcing a desktop optical driver—use the package that matches your Windows version and architecture.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Reseat the slim drive’s SATA/IDE and power connections, check BIOS/UEFI for the optical device, and try another port. In Device Manager, scan for hardware changes; if a yellow mark appears, update the controller driver before the DVD-ROM driver.

Question 3

Version/duplicate-driver conflicts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall old LG/HLDS or generic optical drivers, select “Delete the driver software,” reboot, then install only one current package. If needed, roll back in Device Manager.
