Author: LG

Question 1

Install fails or Code 28/39 appears?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall any existing “HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GT31N” entry in Device Manager (enable *Show hidden devices*), reboot, and let Windows install its native optical/ATA driver. Run any vendor setup as administrator.

Question 2

Drive not detected?

Accepted Answer

Check the SATA power/data cables, try another SATA port, confirm the port is enabled in BIOS/UEFI, then use Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes. On laptops, reseat the slimline SATA adapter.

Question 3

Version conflicts after chipset/SATA updates?

Accepted Answer

Roll back or update the SATA/ATA controller driver (Intel RST/AMD chipset), remove duplicate or ghost optical-drive entries, and avoid forcing a generic driver if Windows already detects the drive correctly.
