Name: NEC MultiSync E231W Driver
Author: NEC

Question 1

Install fails or Windows says the best driver is already installed?

Accepted Answer

In Device Manager, expand Monitors, right-click NEC MultiSync E231W or Generic PnP Monitor, choose Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > Have Disk, and point to the extracted E231W `.inf` file. Run the extraction/install as administrator.

Question 2

Monitor not detected or stuck at wrong resolution?

Accepted Answer

Check the DVI/VGA cable and confirm the monitor’s input source. Use Device Manager > Scan for hardware changes. If it still appears as Generic PnP Monitor, uninstall that entry, reboot, reconnect the monitor, then install the NEC INF.

Question 3

Version conflicts or Windows Update overrides the NEC driver?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall the monitor in Device Manager and select Delete driver software if available. Reboot, install the NEC package again, and verify the driver provider shows NEC—not Microsoft’s generic monitor driver.
