Name: MOTU 828mk2 FireWire Audio Driver
Author: MOTU

Question 1

Install fails on Windows 10/11?

Accepted Answer

The 828mk2 uses legacy FireWire drivers. Run the MOTU installer as administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode; if blocked by driver signing, temporarily disable driver signature enforcement during installation, then reboot.

Question 2

Device not detected?

Accepted Answer

Confirm the FireWire host controller appears in Device Manager and uses the legacy 1394 OHCI driver. Try a known-good 6-pin FireWire cable, connect directly without a hub, and use the 828mk2’s external power supply.

Question 3

Version conflicts or dropouts?

Accepted Answer

Uninstall other MOTU/FireWire audio drivers, remove hidden 828mk2 entries in Device Manager, then reinstall the matching 828mk2 package. Set the 828mk2 as the default audio device and avoid mixing it with newer MOTU device software.
