The Unibrain FireNAS driver helps Windows communicate with compatible Unibrain hardware over an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connection. Installing the appropriate driver allows the operating system to recognize the device and use the functions supported by its hardware and software configuration.

Key Features

  • IEEE 1394 connectivity: Provides driver support for communication between compatible FireNAS hardware and a Windows PC through a FireWire interface.
  • Device recognition: Helps Windows identify the connected hardware rather than leaving it listed as an unknown or unconfigured device.
  • Windows version support: Driver packages are available for Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, and XP. Choose a release that explicitly supports your operating system and, where applicable, its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
  • Hardware integration: Supplies the software interface needed for supported device operations. Available functions depend on the FireNAS model and the selected driver package.

How to Install

  1. Check your system and hardware. Confirm your Windows version and system architecture in System Properties or Settings. Verify that your PC has a compatible IEEE 1394 controller and that you have the correct FireWire cable.
  1. Select the matching download. Choose the Unibrain FireNAS driver intended for your device and Windows version. Review any included instructions for prerequisites, connection timing, or requirements to remove an older driver.
  1. Prepare the package. Extract the download if it is compressed. Save your work and, if System Protection is enabled, consider creating a restore point before changing drivers.
  1. Install the driver. Run the supplied installer with administrator privileges and follow its prompts. If the package has no installer, open Device Manager, locate the relevant device, select Update driver, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Follow the package instructions on when to connect or power on FireNAS.
  1. Restart and verify. Restart Windows if prompted, then check Device Manager for warning icons. Test the device using its intended software. If it is not detected, check the cable, power supply, and IEEE 1394 controller before reinstalling.

A FireNAS device driver does not replace the driver for your PC’s FireWire controller. If the controller itself shows an error in Device Manager, resolve that issue first.

Common Issues and Fixes

  • Install fails or rolls back: Disconnect the FireNAS, uninstall any older Unibrain/IEEE 1394 driver, run the installer as administrator, reboot, then reconnect the FireNAS.
  • FireNAS not detected: Confirm the unit is powered and spun up, reseat or replace the FireWire cable, try another 1394 port, and check Device Manager for an enabled 1394
