The Epson LQ 590 ESC P 2 driver enables Windows to communicate with your Epson dot matrix printer and send print jobs using the appropriate ESC/P 2 commands. Installing a compatible driver helps you configure paper handling, select print settings, and produce correctly formatted invoices, reports, and multipart forms.
Key Features
- ESC/P 2 printing support: Translates output from Windows applications into commands the Epson LQ 590 ESC P 2 can process.
- Paper and layout controls: Provides access to supported paper sizes, orientation, and other settings needed to align text on continuous stationery or individual sheets.
- Print quality options: Lets you adjust available quality settings to suit everyday documents or forms that require clearer text.
- Windows print queue integration: Allows you to manage pending jobs and access printer preferences through familiar Windows controls.
How to Install
- Check your Windows version. Before downloading, confirm whether you use Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 and check your system architecture. Choose a driver package that explicitly supports your version; availability and installation methods may vary.
- Prepare the printer. Load suitable paper and make sure the printer is ready without any error indicators. If you are using an installer, follow its instructions about when to connect and power on the device.
- Download and extract the driver. Save the compatible Epson driver package to your computer. If it is supplied as a compressed archive, extract its contents to a folder you can easily find.
- Install the printer driver. Run the setup program if one is included. Otherwise, open Windows printer settings, choose the option to add a printer manually, and use “Have Disk” when prompted to browse to the extracted driver files. Select the matching printer model and the port used by your connection.
- Configure and test printing. Open Printing Preferences, set the paper size and other available options to match your stationery, then print a test page. For continuous paper or preprinted forms, check alignment with a sample document before starting a larger job.
If output is missing, misaligned, or unreadable, verify the selected driver, connection port, and paper settings first. For multipart forms, also check the printer’s physical paper-thickness adjustment; a software setting does not replace that control.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or printer not found during setup: Disconnect the USB/parallel cable, run the Epson installer as administrator, select the correct port (USB001 or LPT1), then reconnect when prompted.
- Device not detected: Check the cable/adapter and port, restart the Print Spooler, clear stuck jobs, and confirm the LQ 590 appears in Devices and Printers.
- Version or emulation conflicts: Remove old Epson/generic ESC/P2 drivers, install the latest LQ 590 driver, and select ESC/P2 mode—not “Generic/Text Only”—to avoid garbled dot-matrix output.
