The Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller driver lets Windows communicate with the Ricoh IEEE 1394 (FireWire) controller in your computer. This Microsoft-provided driver supports the connection between the controller and compatible FireWire equipment, such as digital camcorders, external storage devices, and audio interfaces.
Key Features
- FireWire controller support: Enables Windows to recognize and operate the Ricoh 1394 host controller so connected IEEE 1394 devices can communicate with the system.
- OHCI compatibility: Uses the Open Host Controller Interface standard for managing supported FireWire connections and data transfers.
- Windows device management: Integrates with Device Manager, where you can check controller status, view driver details, and troubleshoot detection problems.
- Support across Windows versions: Driver options cover Windows 10, 8.1, 7, Vista, and XP. Choose a package that matches your operating system and its 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
How to Install
- Confirm the controller and Windows version. Open Device Manager and look under “IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers” for the Ricoh 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller. If it appears as an unknown device, check its hardware IDs in Properties before selecting a driver.
- Download a matching driver package. Select the version intended for your Windows release and system architecture. Check any included compatibility notes; a package for Windows XP or Vista should not be assumed suitable for Windows 10.
- Prepare the downloaded files. Extract the package if it is compressed. Close applications using FireWire equipment and safely disconnect external storage before changing the controller driver.
- Install or update the driver. Run the included installer if one is provided. Otherwise, right-click the controller in Device Manager, choose the driver update option, and browse to the extracted driver folder. Follow the prompts, and do not force installation if Windows reports that the driver is incompatible.
- Restart and test the connection. Restart your computer if prompted, then confirm that the controller appears without a warning icon in Device Manager. Reconnect your FireWire device and test it with the appropriate application.
Windows may already have a suitable Microsoft driver installed. If the controller works correctly, an update may not be necessary. Some connected FireWire devices also require their own drivers or software, separate from the host controller driver.
Common Issues and Fixes
- Install fails or shows Code 10/28: In Device Manager, uninstall the Ricoh 1394 controller and any hidden/ghost 1394 devices, then rescan. If a third-party package fails, try Update driver > Browse > Let me pick > 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy).
- Device not detected: Check that IEEE 1394 is enabled in BIOS/UEFI and the card is seated. Try another FireWire cable/port and test the device on another 1394 host; Windows won’t enumerate it while the controller has a warning icon.
